Hydrophilic polyurethane biomaterial filler is a new type of biomaterial synthesized from polymer materials. Macropores and micropores are combined in polyurethane fillers, and the macropores maintain good gas liquid solid contact conditions. The micropores are used to immobilize microorganisms, and contain hydrophilic active groups such as amino, carboxyl, and epoxy groups. They can form ionic or covalent bonds with certain active groups in microbial peptide chains to immobilize microorganisms and biological enzymes on the carrier. The density of the filler after immobilizing microorganisms is close to that of water, with a large microbial load, volumetric load, and specific surface area. Due to its structural characteristics, polyurethane fillers can facilitate the mixing, contact, and exchange of sewage, air, and biofilm. Biofilms can not only sit on a large number of microbial carriers, maintaining good activity and pore variability, but also during operation, gases collide with each other under the three-dimensional flow of sewage and are continuously cut into smaller bubbles by the wriggling microbial fillers, increasing oxygen utilization efficiency and reducing aeration. Therefore, it has the characteristics of strong ability to cut bubbles, high utilization rate of space volume, and no dead zone, making it an updated product of current biological fillers.
